Dr. Thirunavukarasu Rajoo, MMA president, emphasized that doctors cannot shirk their legal and professional responsibilities for patient care, even if they are not physically present at the clinics. He stated, "A Letter of Credentialing and Privileging (LCP) is a serious matter, tied to a doctor's competence and accountability. It's not a commodity to be rented out." The issue gained traction when an online portal revealed that individuals were purchasing prescription drugs like semaglutide and tirzepatide (known as Ozempic and Mounjaro) from beauty clinics, bypassing necessary health checks and screenings. Social media users were even sharing clinic contacts for easy access to these medications, priced between RM700 and RM2,000.
Dr. Thirunavukarasu strongly condemned this practice, stating that these metabolic medications are not lifestyle shortcuts. He explained, "These drugs were developed for specific medical conditions, including diabetes and obesity, and require structured medical supervision. Prescribing them without thorough assessments and follow-ups can lead to severe side effects, from gastrointestinal issues to more critical complications."
