Winter Olympics 2026: Lindsey Vonn's Horror Crash and Team GB's Medal Hopes
The Winter Olympics delivered a dramatic day on Sunday as American skiing legend Lindsey Vonn suffered a devastating leg fracture in a hard crash during the downhill event. Vonn, who is 'stable' after surgery, suffered a painful fall on the Cortina slopes, ruling her out of the Games just days after a brutal left knee injury.
Elsewhere, Great Britain held high hopes for a medal on Monday with Kirsty Muir and Mia Brookes. Muir competed in the women's freeski slopestyle final, while Brookes overcame a nervy start in qualifying to advance to the women's snowboard Big Air final.
Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson will also take to the ice, performing in the ice dance rhythm dance.

Lindsey Vonn's Horror Crash
Lindsey Vonn, the 13th of 36 racers on the Olympia delle Tofane course in Cortina d'Ampezzo, crashed hard at approximately 60mph after overshooting a turn and catching her shoulder on the fourth gate. Her injured left leg, with no functioning ACL, gave way, resulting in a leg fracture.
Mia Brookes' Nervy Start
Mia Brookes, a 19-year-old, left it late to qualify for the Winter Olympics Big Air final, but produced an impressive run after a nervy start. She recorded a total score of 167 on a freezing cold night at Livigno Snow Park, finishing third and securing her spot for the gold medal competition on Monday.
